The eligibility rules are stricter than most people expect, and they are worth knowing before you compare a certified car against an ordinary used one. A vehicle has to be ten years old or newer from its original in-service date, more than 12 months or 12,000 miles past that date, and carry 80,000 miles or fewer.
Coverage is Honda-backed and tiered. Non-powertrain coverage runs an additional two years from the expiration of the original new vehicle limited warranty, up to 100,000 total miles. There is a three-day exchange policy on top, provided the car comes back in the same condition with no more than 300 extra miles.
